Girl with bouquet of flowers
Taken from an album of verses by various poets, both classical Persian and Judeo-Persian, this portrait has Zand or Qajar style features. The dress extends into the margins, and the page is lined in the middle, below the figure, as if it had originally been meant for the copying of verses.

Nizami’s Khusraw and Shirin, [17th-18th century]
One of the pictures depicts Shiruyah (Khusraw’s son by another marriage) killing his father in his sleep out of jealousy for his throne and Shirin's love. The other miniature depicts the episode in which Shirin’s horse falls to the ground during their visit to Bistun. Farhad picks the horse up and carries it on his back all the way back to Shirin’s palace, which is visible in the top left corner of the drawing.

Shahin’s Ardashir namah, [17th century]
One picture depicts Shah Ardashir in his harem, with dancers, musicians, and his wives. The other picture shows Queen Istir [Esther] giving birth to Kurush (King Cyrus), her son by Shah Ardashir.

Illustrated pilgrimage scroll
This scroll illustrates the Shi‘i pilgrimage from Mecca to Mashhad. The images are accompanied by verses describing different stages of the journey and the related rites. It was lithographed in six sections and glued to a fabric (probably cotton) backing. The scroll, which was commissioned by Muhammad Ja‘far Kasa’i, a cloth merchant from Karbalaʼ, was acquired in Kirman in ca. 1971 and is now in a private collection in Kailua, Hawaii.
